Why STEM?

STEM is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

STEM provides the underpinnings for every child to be successful in college, work and life.

Every grand challenge our world faces will be impacted by STEM.

As a country, we need to increase our focus on STEM and better engage different kinds of learners. We need to raise the bar to foster new STEM leaders and innovators and transform our education system to ensure our students meet today’s challenges. We must recruit through diversity and develop a national STEM innovation agenda that builds new curricula, links schools and private industry, improves the pipeline for STEM professionals, lowers the achievement gap in low-income and minority populations, and call on states to train, reward, and create more and better STEM teachers.

The right STEM strategies have the potential to make dramatic impact.

Our task as leaders is to prepare minds to think beyond what kind of job they will have after graduation; instead to think of what kind of job they will create. We are hopeful that we can continue to engage everyone to advance the right STEM strategies – now and tomorrow.
